Weapon Damage Calculator
Pick a weapon, enchantments, and a target — the calculator works out damage per hit, hits needed, and damage per second with the game's formulas: attack charge, crits, the mace fall bonus, and the target's armor.

same enchantments wherever the weapon accepts themWhat a hit's damage is made of
A player has an attack damage attribute: 1 of their own plus the weapon's damage, plus 3 for each level of Strength and minus 4 for Weakness. The attack charge — the meter under the crosshair — scales it: the less it has filled, the weaker the hit. The enchantment bonus is counted separately: Sharpness works on everything, Smite on the undead, Bane of Arthropods on spiders and silverfish, and Impaling on aquatic mobs.
A jump crit multiplies only the weapon damage by one and a half, and a mace adds its fall damage bonus before that — which is why a mace crit from a height is so brutal. The target's armor comes last: a zombie has 2 points, the Wither 4, and a player in netherite with Protection IV absorbs more than two thirds of a hit. Breach on a mace lowers that protection.
Frequently asked questions
Which is stronger: Sharpness or Smite?
Sharpness V adds 3 damage against any target, Smite V adds 12.5, but only against the undead: zombies, skeletons, drowned, the Wither, phantoms, and their kin. Against a creeper, enderman, spider, or player Smite adds nothing. For one sword for everything pick Sharpness; for an undead farm or the Wither fight pick Smite.
How do critical hits work?
A critical hit happens when you are falling after a jump, not sprinting, not in water, and the attack meter is over 90% charged. It multiplies the weapon's base damage by 1.5, while the enchantment bonus stays the same. A diamond sword with Sharpness V hits for 10 normally and 13.5 on a crit.
Why not just click fast?
An undercharged hit is weaker: the weapon's base is multiplied by 0.2 + charge squared × 0.8, and the enchantment bonus by the charge. A hit at half the meter deals only 40% of the base. On top of that a target is invulnerable for half a second after a hit, so even a fist can't land more than two full hits per second.
How much damage does a mace deal?
On its own, 6, like an iron sword. But a hit while falling more than 1.5 blocks adds 4 damage for each of the first 3 blocks, 2 for each of the next 5, and 1 for every block beyond. A hit from 10 blocks deals 30 damage, 45 as a crit. Density V adds another 2.5 per block fallen.
Sword or axe?
An axe hits harder per swing — 10 for netherite against 8 for the sword — but slower: one hit per second against 1.6. Per second the sword deals more, and it also hits neighbours with a sweep. The axe is good against shields — it knocks a shield out for 5 seconds — and for one big hit, such as a jump crit.
