How to obtain
A compass is crafted from four iron ingots and redstone dust. It can also be bought from a librarian or found in several loot chests.
Primary use
The normal needle points to the world spawn, not the player's bed. Compasses are also used for maps and for crafting a recovery compass.
Important mechanics
A normal compass spins randomly in the Nether and End. Using it on a lodestone binds the compass, which then works only in the lodestone's dimension.
Practical tips
Name lodestone compasses on an anvil and keep a normal spare separately. Destroying the lodestone leaves the linked needle spinning.
