General and specialized sword setups for Java 26.2.

General damageSharpness V
DropsLooting III
VersionJava 26.2

General-purpose sword

Sharpness V, Looting III, Fire Aspect II, Unbreaking III, and Mending fit most situations.

Against undead

Replace Sharpness with Smite V for skeletons, zombies, withers, and other undead.

Distance control

Knockback II helps near ledges, but can slow down close-range finishing attacks.

Java, Bedrock and optional enchantments

The core build below favors general damage and drops without automatically adding Knockback and Fire Aspect. Java can add Sweeping Edge III for sweep attacks; Bedrock has no such enchantment. Use a separate Smite V sword instead of Sharpness for undead hunting. Diamond and netherite swords accept the same book set, but the history of the particular item affects the price.

Ready builds and anvil costs

Java 26.2. Fresh item and one fresh book at the required level per enchantment. No renaming or repairs. Costs are levels, not XP points.

Frequently asked questions

How many levels does this build need?

Each build lists its total and most expensive step. Prices assume separate fresh books at the required levels and an item with no prior work in Java. Set the penalty separately for an item with history; material repair costs are not included.

Should all books be combined first?

Not always: transferring the right-hand book's enchantments costs levels at every step. The cheapest order depends on contents and input penalties. Open the specific build's plan for the left and right input of each operation.
